So I went for my third training session, and my second in-ring training session in St. Albans a week or so back at the Ayash sports complex.
Bill Instructed me to be there at 4:30 so I could help set up the ring and so we could get in the ring and do some work. Turns out Bill got there about 20 mins before the show started. I apparently misunderstood and he meant that Allen Lynch would be training with me. Either way it was awesome.
I got there and helped set up the ring as instructed, and also helped put up the entrance tent thingy as well. Allen got some new mats for the ring and I proudly can say, I am the dude who got to break them in with the first bump of many on the night.
Allen got in the ring with me, and as is apparently customary, most of the wrestlers surround the ring during these training sessions. I suppose this could be intimidating if you weren't an arrogant wrestler in training. So instead of being nervous I get really amped up and excited. After all, that's the goal, to perform in front of people right?
Things went really, really well. Me, Allen, and Gorgeous JC(for a bit) went over what is called the "International". Which is a spot that all wrestlers know that incorporates a few basic moves in a string. The moves are a hip toss, arm drag, drop-kick, shoulder block, and your basic rope running. When strung together in a seamless set it really is pretty cool. We went over that a few times and everyone seemed really impressed. They "ooooooo..."'d whenever I took my bumps then J.C. said that if they didn't hurt I should definately take them that way cause it looks impressive. Max Rock went as far to say, "dude, when you take a hip toss it's sick." So I was grinning like an idiot.
Allen was really cool. He would show me something or ask if I could do something and he didn't waste time going over things that I naturally do well. He said I was a natural for the physical things and we moved a lot faster paced than he did with the other guys that were there training with him.
The whole day just was really awesome for me. Running through a few moves strung together and taking a few calls from Allen on the fly just made me realize that I was getting a lot closer to actually being in a match.
After training I sat in the crowd with Ian and watched the show. It was really one of the best xmcw shows I've seen. All the matches were pretty well done. The highlight was Eric Steele, which is a friend I met in the dorms at Marshall, versus...shit...I just drew a blank. Anyway, the match was great.
After the show I helped tear down the ring, thanked allen and Bill again then headed home.
I got an email from Bill today that read something like this, "What size shoe do you wear? I may be able to get you into a match with DFZ in huntington next month to set up an angle there next month if your up for it."
If I'm up for it? Do bears shit in the woods? Seth is yet again stoked. I'm still confused as to how the size of my shoes has any relevance to whether or not I am going to wrestle however.

I'm sorry I've not been able to make it to any of your training sessions, Seth. but rest assured I WILL be there for your first match. where ever it is. also, could bill be buying you a pair of boots? you may know...As commonly known about the hero's journey it is common for the protege to receive a gift from his mentor.Unfortunately the mentor usually died soon after and is charged with a quest that he will deny he's ready for and ultimately decide he must do it anyway and goes through Hell only to come out on top...
ReplyDeleteBut free boots are good right?
But seriously. I'm stoked FOR you. That's exciting stuff. It's super cool. And so you know...Crista has a Bedazzler.
I was thinking about that the other day--that really was the best of the XMCW shows I've seen. All of the matches were pretty good with a few amazing moments sprinkled throughout.
ReplyDeleteThat Eric Steele match was pretty bad ass. His piledriver finish is nasty looking.
Plus, I thought "Awesome" Allen Lynch wrestled his ass off. He did this springboard DDT over the ropes from the apron that I thought was very impressive.
I'm stoked about tomorrow night at the Ayash. And, looking at the card, you get to meet the Chemical Valley Rollergirls? Why in God's name am I just now learning about the Chemical Valley Rollergirls?
"Sultry" Seth Martin's rule should be that he don't don what isn't bedazzled.
